Can you please make a post when you solved the problem? I have the exact same problem with my PC too.

I could run shaders before and now I can´t and i did not change anything.

I am also playing on version 1.16.4.

When I load another texture pack or shader the game crashes in 9 out of 10 cases.

It also crashes sometimes when I change certain graphic options (i think it was lightning textures).

It´s alsways the same crash report, exactly like the one you posted.

I already tried updating and (clean) reinstalling the graphic drivers, reinstalling / updating Java. I also deleted Msi Afterbourner and I dont have RivaTuner installed.

I also ran Minecraft and Java as an administrator and nothing worked.

I just dont understand why I have this problem now but it worked perfectly before...

I have read in another forum that I should try to "Run Java with -Dsun.java2d.d3d=false JVM option or set J2D_D3D=false environment variable" but I dont know how to add this argument to java because Im not familiar with Java at all.

It would be nice If someone could help me or if you could give an update if/when you have found a solution.

    Thanks!

The arguments aren't added to Java, they are added as JVM arguments in the Minecraft launcher

Neither OptiForge nor MixinBootstrap should be used, ever.

The only reason I recommended this is because Forge has issues with OptiFine and OptiForge fixes those issues. Most modpacks run like trash without OptiFine, so that is why I said that. It was just a recommendation from my modding experiences with Minecraft.

Optiforge didn't fix the problem, any idea what mod might be causing this?

Try removing OptiFine (and OptiForge and MixinBootstrap if those are in the mods folder)

If you are still having issues, please post an updated log.

  3. First go to the view tab in File Explorer and make sure File name extensions is checked

Right click on the .jar file and click Open With > Choose another app

A list of suggested applications will appear. Click on More apps.

Scroll all the way down and choose  Look for another app on this PC

Locate the java.exe file. It is usually located in Program Files\Java\Java version\Bin folder

Select the application and click OK button to set it as a default for .jar files

Now you should be able to double click the .jar file and run it as intended

If you want a separate profile for each version you have to specify the directory that the mods are located in.

For example, in your .minecraft folder, create a folder and name it whatever you want

Then open the Minecraft Launcher and navigate to the Installations tab, once there, you can create a new instance under the version you want. I chose to use 1.16.4 and you can name it what ever you want.

Save that instance, run it, once everything has downloaded and you are at the Minecraft title screen close the game and reopen the launcher.

Next, if you have already downloaded the forge loader you are going to use, run the jar file.

After the forge loader has finished setting up every thing, go to the Instances tab in the Minecraft Launcher and edit the newly created instance.

Change the version to the release forge version, and in the Game Directory, put C:\Users\<Your USER >\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\<The folder name you created earlier>

Save the Instance, and load it, once the Minecraft title screen has loaded, your folder should look like this

Now you should be able to add what ever mods you want to the mod folder as long as they are compatible with that forge version.

  5. After looking more closely at the log, there are a bunch of OptiFine errors. Try removing OptiFine from the mods folder and then running the game instance.

If you are going to install OptiFine, I would suggest not installing a preview version. Try it with OptiFine HD U G6

There is also a mod called OptiForge which was made to fix the incompatibilities between Forge and OptiFine. If you decide to install it install OptiForge-MC1.16.5-0.5.0 for 1.16.5, or the previous version for 1.16.4 make sure you install OptiForge's dependency MixinBootstrap-1.0.5.jar

  6. Make sure you have the right version of Java installed. If you are on a Windows PC and are talking about forge, it should have a .jar extension and if the right version of Java is installed, it should automatically open if you double click on it.

  7. The easiest way to work around this would be use another launcher like MultiMC or if it is a pre-made modpack, CurseForge.

CurseForge launcher (previously the Twitch launcher) makes the file path C:\Program Files (x86)\Minecraft\Instances.

This makes it so much easier to manage all the instances (different versions of modpacks) you have. Fabric is the new alternative to forge, so that is why it works.
