[Solved]How to change damage on right click?

Recommended Posts

So I'm trying to create an item that deals damage on left click, like a sword, however I can't seem to get the item to do a custom damage amount. For debuging purposes I set the damage value to 100000, however, it still acts as if the item doesn't have a damage value set. Here is my code:

(Code removed)

There don't seem to be any tutorials out there that detail how to make a custom weapon in forge, so I might be missing a method, but I did my best to look through the Sword.java and pick out the relevant methods.

Okay, my problem now is that I want to change the damage dealt to NPCs on a right click, however, when I change the weaponDamage variable, minecraft does not register the change.

On 1.6.2, getDamageVsEntity(entity) do not exist anymore.

This is replaced with Attribute, modifiers and such.

Could you give me an example? I must be missing something somewhere, since it isn't dealing the damage I want it to.

Yeah thats true that there is something with atributes.

Search for the function which outputs a MultiMap.

By the way i have a question too.

I did make a special sword (only 10 uses) and it does work on 1.5

It give 3 damage on on every entity. But not on pigs. Pigs get only 1 damage.

Now is the problem on 1.6 you can not look at the entities.

I have kind of an idea but that require alot of testing and i do not want that because then the multimap is useless.

And i want to stay compatible with other swords^^"

So how is that fixable?

Okay, so I got it to deal damage, but now I'm trying to get the amount of damage dealt to change on right click, but even though I change the value of weaponDamage, the damage output doesn't change. Is there something else I have to call for it the register the change?

would you mind posting code?

Here's my current code for the item:

	setUnlocalizedName("Baton");
	this.weaponDamage = 0.0F;
}
    @Override
    @SideOnly(Side.CLIENT)
    public void registerIcons(IconRegister iconRegister) {
        this.itemIcon = iconRegister.registerIcon("Troncraft:Baton");
    }
    public ItemStack onItemRightClick(ItemStack par1ItemStack, World par2World, EntityPlayer par3EntityPlayer)
    {
    	if(!par2World.isRemote)
    	{
    	NBTTagCompound tag = par1ItemStack.getTagCompound();
    	if (tag == null) {
    		tag = new NBTTagCompound();
    		par1ItemStack.setTagCompound(tag);
    	}

    	{
    		this.active = false;
    	//	this.weaponDamage = 0.0F;
    	}
    	System.out.println(tag.getName() + " " + active + " " + this.weaponDamage);
    	}
    	return par1ItemStack;
    }
    public Multimap func_111205_h()
    {
        Multimap multimap = super.func_111205_h();
        multimap.put(SharedMonsterAttributes.field_111264_e.func_111108_a(), new AttributeModifier(field_111210_e, "Weapon modifier", (double)this.weaponDamage, 0));
        return multimap;
    }
public void setWeaponDamage(float damage) {
	this.weaponDamage = damage;

}

}

I got it to deal damage, which is just by adding the following code to the item:

    public Multimap func_111205_h()
    {
        Multimap multimap = super.func_111205_h();
        multimap.put(SharedMonsterAttributes.field_111264_e.func_111108_a(), new AttributeModifier(field_111210_e, "Weapon modifier", (double)this.weaponDamage, 0));
        return multimap;
    }

But I can't seem to get it to deal different amounts of damage after a right click, currently I'm trying to send a packet to the server.

I had the same issue as you and for me the function with the MultiMap didn't work.

What I did is that I looked at the source for ModularPowersuits(you can find it on GitHub) and I made this function(probably not the best, but I think it works)

@Override
    public boolean hitEntity(ItemStack par1ItemStack, EntityLivingBase par2EntityLivingBase, EntityLivingBase par3EntityLivingBase)
    {
    	float damage = 0.0F;
    	if(par1ItemStack.hasTagCompound())
		if(par1ItemStack.getTagCompound().getBoolean("speed"))
			damage+=2.0F;
    	DamageSource damagesource = DamageSource.causePlayerDamage((EntityPlayer)par3EntityLivingBase);
    	par2EntityLivingBase.attackEntityFrom(damagesource, damage);
    	par1ItemStack.damageItem(1, par3EntityLivingBase);
    return true;
    }

It damages the entity being hit with an additional amount of damage.I could not find a way to decrease the damage however...

i dont know if its the right way to do this but its deffinitelly going to work

so your custom sword need to make special implementation of:

onItemRightClick(ItemStack, World, EntityPlayer)

you will also need a "LivingAttackHandler"

to know about NBT and events

basicly what you do is when the player right clicks, in the Item method you override you change the nbt of the itemstack (cycle through numbers from 0 to max)

in the LivingAttackHandler you check if the attacking entity is a player, who is holding your custom sword

if both thos condition are true then you check the nbt of the item and change the damage of the damageSource appropriately

Hmm, okay, I'm still a little bit confused about the LivingAttackHandler. Is it a packet handler or something different? Is there a tutorial somewhere you could point me to? I tried googling it but nothing came up.

if you look at the wiki you can find tutorials for even handlers, LivingAttackEvent is a kind of event handler

Okay, so I registered a LivingAttackEvent, but I must have done something wrong because now my weapon doesn't do damage at all, I left click with it, and nothing happens. Here's what I got for code, tell me if I'm missing something:

I've got the NBT data working, where it switches and integer tag between values on right click.

You are cancelling the event, no wonder nothing happens.

if (event.isCancelable())
	{
		event.setCanceled(true);
	}

I thought that, but when I tried deleting it, it crashes on start-up.

@gotolink is right

and event.ammount is never changed

How would I go about doing that? Putting event.ammount = damageAmmount instead of damage = damageAmmount?

well first you got to stop canceling it becasue tahts obvious no dmg will be outputed

yes .. and this is actually somewhat basic java so maybe you should just look into it a little :)

UNLESS you have already worked with other language before (such as C++) and you are thinking that float are used like pointers, well then you should know that in java theres no pointer, every primitive type is direct and every object is a reference :)

Yeah, I've been on about a 5 or 6 month hiatus from coding in java, so I'm a little rusty! Plus even during then, I didn't use float variables at all.

<TheMoreYouKnow>

technicly double are the standard floating point variable (if you declare a float you have to use 3.2F <- to tell the compiler to cast into float)

but i prefer usign float as not everyone today has a 64 bit architecture. causing them to do twice as much instruction for a double since their cpu can only handle 32 bit at once (requiring the cpu to do 2 operation per read/write of a double

hen??? oh, well do the same with livingHurtEvent because this one isnt final :P its th same thing but dmg received

Yeah, it's probably an "Anti-hack" thing, since once the event is sent, they don't want anyone to change the value of the damage.

It's finally working the way I want it! In case anyone is interested here is the code I used. It's not commented, but if you want me to explain any of it, just send me a PM.

	DamageSource attackSource = event.source;
	if (attackSource.getSourceOfDamage() != null)

		EntityPlayer player = (EntityPlayer) attackSource.getSourceOfDamage();
		if(player.getHeldItem() != null)

				NBTTagCompound tag = itemstack.getTagCompound();
				int damageAmmount = tag.getInteger("Damage");
				event.ammount = damageAmmount;

}
}

Finished product changes it's damage output when it is held in the player's hand and right clicked.

    • Hello, I'm trying to modify the effects of native enchantments for bows and arrows in Minecraft. After using a decompilation tool, I found that the specific implementations of native bow and arrow enchantments (including `ArrowDamageEnchantment`, `ArrowKnockbackEnchantment`, `ArrowFireEnchantment`, `ArrowInfiniteEnchantment`, `ArrowPiercingEnchantment`) do not contain any information about the enchantment effects (such as the `getDamageProtection` function for `ProtectionEnchantment`, `getDamageBonus` function for `DamageEnchantment`, etc.). Upon searching for the base class of arrows, `AbstractArrow`, I found a function named setEnchantmentEffectsFromEntity`, which seems to be used to retrieve the enchantment levels of the tool held by a `LivingEntity` and calculate the specific values of the enchantment effects. However, after testing with the following code, I found that this function is not being called: @Mixin(AbstractArrow.class) public class ModifyArrowEnchantmentEffects { private static final Logger LOGGER = LogUtils.getLogger(); @Inject( method = "setEnchantmentEffectsFromEntity", at = @At("HEAD") ) private void logArrowEnchantmentEffectsFromEntity(CallbackInfo ci) { LOGGER.info("Arrow enchantment effects from entity"); } } Upon further investigation, I found that within the onHitEntity method, there are several lines of code: if (!this.level().isClientSide && entity1 instanceof LivingEntity) { EnchantmentHelper.doPostHurtEffects(livingentity, entity1); EnchantmentHelper.doPostDamageEffects((LivingEntity)entity1, livingentity); } These lines of code actually call the doPostHurt and doPostAttack methods of each enchantment in the enchantment list. However, this leads back to the issue because native bow and arrow enchantments do not implement these functions. Although their base class defines the functions, they are empty. At this point, I'm completely stumped and seeking assistance. Thank you.
