I installed version 3.4.9.171

On start up it goes to the loading screen it usually skips.

this is the error it gives me.

Exception in thread "Thread-4" java.lang.VerifyError: (class: net/minecraft/client/MinecraftApplet,

method: init signature: ()V) Bad Type in put/field/putstatic

at net.minecraft.GameUpdater.createApplet(GameUpdater.java:285)

at net.minecraft.Launcher$1.run(Launcher.java:94)

I also have modloder and modloader mp installed, did some testing and confirmed that after the installation of forge is the only way I get this error.(The only error.)

Did you not bother to follow the stickied thread? The one titled "Minecraft 1.3.1?" It's stickied for a reason. :P

Anyways,

[*]Forge isn't released for 1.3.1 yet.

[*]ModLoader Functionality is currently built into Forge. (still not 1.3.1 yet though)

[*]Lastly, don't use ModLoaderMp. ForgeModLoader does it better, I hear. Either way, everything you need is pretty much built in already unless Mod Authors haven't ported to the most recent Forge releases. In which case, you should ask them to. :)

Check out my

Texture Packs Thread here on the Forge Forum. :)

Currently in the process of adding some mod support for JohnSmith Texture Pack.
