Problem Installing Forge 1.6.4 on Mac

Recently I installed Minecraft 1.6.4 and tried afterward to install Forge 1.6.4. I tried different versions of the installer like:

9.11.0.898

9.11.0.897

9.11.0.884

But everytime I open it I get a window with "Mod system installer" for title, a "OK" button in the bottom right and nothing else.

I can't even click the button and can't close the window.

I tried updating my Java but it's up to date. I also tried looking for tutorials to help me install it in case it was a mistake from my side but nothing helped.

And just to mention if it can be helpful, my OS version is 10.6.8.

I had this same problem myself.

It is possible to install a server with Apple's J6, because there is a shortcut to install the server in the current directory -- from Terminal, use something like

java -jar minecraftforge-installer-1.6.2-9.10.0.848.jar --InstallServer

This will install forge as a server in your current directory.

For the client, however, there is no such luck. Report the bug to Apple https://bugreport.apple.com -- reference bug report # 14972051

Java 7 does work, but I don't know of a version of it for OS 10.6.8.

The text of my bug report to apple:

Summary:

I am attempting to run a java program that works fine on PC's, with oracle-provided java, and fails on the Mac.

Mac has java 6, update 51.

Program is the "Forge installer" for minecraft.

It is available (source, executable, etc) at http://files.minecraftforge.net/'>http://files.minecraftforge.net/ and the version I'm trying to use is 848.

Behavior on PC's: When run normally, it displays a window, with some graphics, radio buttons, a directory selection button, and an "OK" button. Hitting OK starts the installer.

Behavior on Mac: When run normally, it displays a window that is completely blank except for the OK button. Hitting OK does nothing.

Secondary behavior: When run with the "--InstallServer" option, it will install the server code, without opening any GUI's -- and this works just fine on macs.

Note that there is no way to install the client-side support without the GUI.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Get the new minecraft launcher up and running.

2. Get the forge installer from http://files.minecraftforge.net

3. Run the installer.

Expected Results:

I expect to see the install GUI

Actual Results:

On PC's / oracle java: I do see the install GUI.

On Mac 10.7.5 / Mac java 6_51: I do not see the install GUI.

For me, the output is:

keybounceMBP:TestServer76 michael$ echo $java
/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Commands/java
keybounceMBP:TestServer76 michael$ $java -jar minecraftforge-installer-1.6.2-9.10.0.848.jar
^CkeybounceMBP:TestServer76 michael$

Before hitting ^C, I tried pressing both buttons -- the "OK" button, and the close/"X" button. Neither did anything.

Interesting, usually when things like this happens it throws something about not being able to open font files or some shit.

But this is just nothing. Sadly, without someone who is experiencing the issue giving us direct access to debug on there computer, or us being able to reproduce it our end... there's not much we can do.

I do Forge for free, however the servers to run it arn't free, so anything is appreciated.

  • 3 weeks later...

As I said we can't debug on our end as we don't have macs so all information you can provide. Or. When I get back home someone volenters to let me RD your computer so I can do some debugging.

Aside from that having everyone post there computer specs, jvm versions, any info you may think is relevent. Also there have been reports that reinstalling java fixes this.

This may help, be sure to update your Mac to Java 7 http://java.com/en/download/mac_download.jsp

After installing Java 7 from oracle, you may have to set the runtime environment! go into System Pref > Other > Java > Java (tab) > View > and set (a top) the Java 7 platform on the list to be used by the user and or system.
