If you're using 1.8+, Forge provides the

BrewingRecipeRegistry

class that allows you to add brewing recipes. If you're not, update.

Simply call one of the

BrewingRecipeRegistry.addRecipe

overloads to add a recipe, they all have doc comments explaining their inputs.

Make sure you're using the latest version, preferably for 1.8.9. Brewing recipes were introduced in 1.8-11.14.2.1440.

Change the

minecraft.version

property in your build.gradle to the new version, run

setupDecompWorkspace

and refresh your IDE project.

If you're updating to 1.8.9, you'll need to update to ForgeGradle 2.1 from 2.0 by changing the version in the

buildscript.dependencies

section of your build.gradle and update your MCP mappings by changing the

minecraft.mappings

property. Look at the build.gradle of the latest 1.8.9 MDK download to see what you need.

okay, perfect thanks.

now what  would be the correct way to code one of these?

BrewingRecipeRegistry.addRecipe(ItemStack input, ItemStack ingredient, ItemStack output)

    {

    return addRecipe(new BrewingRecipe(Tools.alcmix, MarijuanaBud.mBud, Tools.ExtractPotion));

    }

Do you actually understand Java? You don't need to create a new method, just call one of the existing ones.

The methods expect

ItemStack

or

String

(ore dictionary name) ingredients and outputs, not

Item

s.

i am doing my best to learn it by reading(by which i do not learn by. i need someone showing me how to do it), and people serve little to no help.

it's not my fault i couldnt find a tutorial on the adventure that is brewing potions that could suit me.

so tell me, how would i add it. show me what you would do?

or is this to much to ask.

and i also got that command from insdie the registry.

all the tutorials dont explain shit, they just say do this.

You need to understand Java and OO programming in general before you can make a mod. There won't be a tutorial for everything, so you need to know how to read existing code and use it.

The registry already has the methods you need, you just need to call one of them with the appropriate arguments.

Create an

ItemStack

each for your input, ingredient and output items and call

BrewingRecipeRegisty.addRecipe

with these three

ItemStack

arguments. That's all you need to do.

Yes i know. in case it's a new concept, I am using Minecraft to teach myself. and then if i feel comfortable enough with it, then i will continue on to something else.

however, at this point, i will make it known that i do not learn by people repeating the fact that i don't know java.

no shit

i am learning

i am asking for help.

just help.

now can you, straight up, tell me if i need to (and how to) register these the same was i register my smelting and shaped and shapeless recipes?

i am aware of all of those things.

however, what you people dont seem to undertsand that for this particular thing i need the answer "spoon fed" to me, because i dont understand it. and i am teaching myself java for minecraft, thats what i want to know at the moment, so thats all im looking for, and if being "spoon fed" the answer will help me get to my acheivment, because adding a recipe such as this is only a percentage of what i am doing here in this mod.

so if you could be so kind as to give me  line that is an example of what you have given me. because all i ahve right now is

BrewingRecipeRegistry.addRecipe.............................fuck it

Because you do not know how to invoke a method then any response we could give to help you would be spoon feeding. Because you do not know a basic, fundamental, operation of object oriented programming.

Exception: If you do not understand Java, I WILL NOT HELP YOU and your thread will get locked.

when learning math does the teacher not show you examples of how to do it with COMPLETE examples.

its not spoon feeding. its this is how you do it, now adapt it to yours. learn from it.

Except that this isn't math, this is English, and I told you to write a story of your summer vacation.

And you want me to provide you with an example summer vacation story that includes you traveling to Disney Land.

Or alternatively if you want to stick with the math analogy, it looks like this:

Me: "With the function f(x): y = x2, what is Y when X equals 3?"

You: "What do you mean 'squared'?"

so this?

BrewingRecipeRegistry.addRecipe(ItemStack input, ItemStack ingredient, ItemStack output)

This is the correct Method for adding a simple brewing recipe, now you only need to calm them correctly (now it is wrong).

catch(Exception e)

{

}

Yay, Pokémon exception handling, gotta catch 'em all (and then do nothing with 'em).

I learned AHK, HTML, PHP and SQL first, then wanted to make a mod. I was confused when everyone was talking about "methods" when I was used to hearing them called functions.

Functions and methods aren't the same thing, a method is a special kind of function:

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/155609/difference-between-a-method-and-a-function

A method is a piece of code that is called by name that is associated with an object. In most respects it is identical to a function except for two key differences.

  •
  • It is implicitly passed the object on which it was called.

  • It is able to operate on data that is contained within the class (remembering that an object is an instance of a class - the class is the definition, the object is an instance of that data).

Apparently I'm a complete and utter jerk and come to this forum just like to make fun of people, be confrontational, and make your personal life miserable.  If you think this is the case, JUST REPORT ME.  Otherwise you're just going to get reported when you reply to my posts and point it out, because odds are, I was trying to be nice.

this....

// The following adds a recipe that brews a piece of rotten flesh "into" a diamond sword resulting in a diamond hoe

        BrewingRecipeRegistry.addRecipe(new ItemStack(Items.diamond_sword), new ItemStack(Items.rotten_flesh), new ItemStack(Items.diamond_hoe));

is the first thing i looked at ad tried to use.

you have methods that need to be called on. these methods determine how the object in the game run, correct?

but i guess i just wasn't asking the right question.

where do i register these methods, in the main, client, common, or the varying order.

and to respond to the rest. i do not have a firm grasp on it, and what you have me was helpful so thank you, and i am workign towards that grasp.
