[1.8]Make booleans stay after quitting Minecraft

Maybe the NBT method  you can probably save it to player NBT since is a gui is gonna be personal then if you need it on server side you can send packets to some array on server to update all the boolean gui settings for all clients.

Maybe someone knows better.

Writing to a file seems much more easy but I don't know how to do that. The file will be kept in the save folder and you can access it at will.

you need to use NBT or save to a file

No.

The config can save values as well, the problem here is that Trusak does not have a basic understanding of object oriented programming.

Trusak, if you want the config value to change, you need to set the property and then save the config.

It is true, I don't, but I learn when I see examples and can not do a lot when I see something I don't understand and can't find on the Internet :(

Your best resource example is the giant wealth of knowledge that exists inside the source code. Look at the objects you're working with and look at their property names and method names.

We've already told you that you need to use the Property object.  See if you can find something in it that will do what you want to do.

(Hint: there is)

I am very new to coding and do not know how to use stuff like that yet. I am seriously trying to learn but I won't find what I need when I don't know what I am looking for. My only knowledge at the momemnt comes from tutorials etc. and I am willing to learn more but I won't when I don't know WHY I am doing something. I like it when people give examples because when I look at them, I try to figure out how that works and can do it myself next ime.

It's not that hard. Hover over the Property declaration (the class name, not the variable name) and click on the tooltip that comes up and navigate to the class by clicking on the class name in the tooltip.  Or highlight it and press Ctrl-Shit-T in Eclipse.  Or use the Navigate menu to "Open Type" or "Jump to Declaration" or similar.

You don't have to read the method contents for this, just the method names.  I'll help out a bit by saying to scroll down to line 1100 and start there.

To be honest, I still don't know how to insert that inside of a button and where I can put my config file name into :/.

I still don't get how I put that inside of my code. My preInit:

@EventHandler
public void preInit(FMLPreInitializationEvent event)
{

	Configuration config1= new Configuration(event.getSuggestedConfigurationFile());
	config1.load();
	FastExamples.NotResetVariables.PMs = config1.getBoolean("PMs", "Booleans", false, "Disable to disable by default");
	FastExamples.NotResetVariables.instantRejoin = config1.getBoolean("InstantRejoin", "Booleans", false, "Disable to disable by default");
	FastExamples.NotResetVariables.showPartyChat = config1.getBoolean("ShowPartyChat", "Booleans", false, "Disable to disable by default");
	FastExamples.NotResetVariables.showGuildChat = config1.getBoolean("ShowGuildChat", "Booleans", false, "Disable to disable by default");
	config1.save();
	proxy.registerClientStuff();
}

My button:

protected void actionPerformed(GuiButton button) throws IOException {
	if(button == button2) {
		Minecraft.getMinecraft().displayGuiScreen(new GUI2());
	}
}

1) What I gave you is borderline copy-paste-able.

2) Your main mod is still using config1.getBoolean not config1.get

3) If you want to CHANGE THE VALUE DURING THE GAME the code needs to go inside the BUTTON action.

boolean b = prop.getBoolean();

prop.set(b);

Congradulations, you did nothing with your boolean.  You got the current value from the save file, then wrote it back.

Good jorb.

I know that I have to change it but the code doesn't work already so I want to get it working before I go on :)

It "doesn't work" because it does nothing.

Your code literally tells the game to go get the milk out of the fridge, then put it back without doing anything with it.  Then you come to the forums and complain that your glass is still empty and that your robot doesn't work.

No, your robot is 100% functional, you just gave it a series of instructions that are the equivalent of a NO-OP.

"Replace the first word in this sentence with the first word in this sentence."

> The first word is "Replace"

> Will now replace "Replace" with "Replace"

"Replace the first word in this sentence with the first word in this sentence."

> Done!

I mean that it doesn't even load my config1 anywhere but in the preInit

So how can I make it work?

Make your config variable exist outside local scope.

Ok so that is what I have right now:

protected void actionPerformed(GuiButton button) throws IOException {
	if(button == GUI.GUI.button2) {
		Minecraft.getMinecraft().displayGuiScreen(new GUI2());
		Property prop = config1.get("Booleans", "PMs", false);
		boolean PMs = prop.getBoolean();
		prop.set(!PMs);;
		config1.save();
	}
}

What to do now? Also how can I make that

public static boolean PMs;
public static boolean PMsEnabled(){
    return (PMs = !PMs);
}

get it's state from the config?

Well that will never be true.

true != false

or

false != true

Ah, you are correct.  But yes, still nonsense.

Ah, you are correct.  But yes, still nonsense.

I am not sure what I am doing wrong. It works fine in-game.

The name of your method (PmsEnabled) sounds like a getter method. IE it should just return PMs, but instead it switches the value and returns the new value.

    • I am unable to do that. Brigadier is a mojang library that parses commands.
    • Hi, i appreciate the answer. I would love to do that, but we have active players with all their belongings in SSN. Also this mod is really handy and they would be mad if we removed it. Are you really certain that SSN is causing this? It would require lots of work to test it and SSN was not really an issue before we removed Fast Suite. Can it be related somehow? I will provide you with log before removing FS. PasteBin: https://pastebin.com/Y5EpLpNe (crash before removing Fast Suite, which I suspected to be a problem from some crash before)
