Which Java Development Kit should I use?

Apparently I'm a complete and utter jerk and come to this forum just like to make fun of people, be confrontational, and make your personal life miserable.  If you think this is the case, JUST REPORT ME.  Otherwise you're just going to get reported when you reply to my posts and point it out, because odds are, I was trying to be nice.

Exception: If you do not understand Java, I WILL NOT HELP YOU and your thread will get locked.

DO NOT PM ME WITH PROBLEMS. No help will be given.

The Oracle JDK sucks now, because it has a bunch of legal and licensing crap attached to it.

Use one of the many OpenJDK builds, I recommend AdoptOpenJDK, which was linked above.

And what's about JDK 11? I can't find the download-link to JDK 10.

You should not use Java 11, as that is out of support.

Use Java 8 for Forge development.

    • You can use start.bat. Just run it from the command line and post the output.
    • Not sure what version you are referring to. Regardless, IDs should not be used at all. Simply use the Item constants in the Items class for vanilla or your own class for your own items.
