Override/Modify an external method

I want to create a mod that changes the function of a block in another mod, specifically the onBlockActivated() method, but don't know how to do it. I had an idea of perhaps canceling the registering of that block and register a children of that block with the methods changed using the same name but I don't know if that is possible. Is there some way I can achieve that?

Your mod will need to have that mod as a dependency and then you can just override the Block in the Registry.

I've got the dependency in and overridden the method for the block, but when launching in eclipse, I get the error of the mod missing, but if I put the mod into the mod folder I says there is a duplicate with the universal version and deobf version. I don't know how to solve this problem.
