[1.16.1] How create a new slab block with Eclipse?

Try looking at vanilla examples of slabs first.

Some tips:

Modder Support:

Spoiler

1. Do not follow tutorials on YouTube, especially TechnoVision (previously called Loremaster) and HarryTalks, due to their promotion of bad practice and usage of outdated code.

2. Always post your code.

3. Never copy and paste code. You won't learn anything from doing that.

4.

Programming via Eclipse's hotfixes will get you nowhere

5. Learn to use your IDE, especially the debugger.

6.

The "picture that's worth 1000 words" only works if there's an obvious problem or a freehand red circle around it.

Support & Bug Reports:

Spoiler

1. Read the EAQ before asking for help. Remember to provide the appropriate log(s).

2. Versions below 1.11 are no longer supported due to their age. Update to a modern version of Minecraft to receive support.

Supply the correct types inside the <>.

Apparently I'm a complete and utter jerk and come to this forum just like to make fun of people, be confrontational, and make your personal life miserable.  If you think this is the case, JUST REPORT ME.  Otherwise you're just going to get reported when you reply to my posts and point it out, because odds are, I was trying to be nice.

Exception: If you do not understand Java, I WILL NOT HELP YOU and your thread will get locked.

DO NOT PM ME WITH PROBLEMS. No help will be given.

How did you fix it?
This is my code:

public static final DeferredRegister<Block> BLOCKS = new DeferredRegister<>(ForgeRegistries.BLOCKS, VanligMod.MOD_ID);

And it gives this error:

Cannot infer type arguments for DeferredRegister<>

Use DeferredRegister#create, the constructor is deprecated with a comment next to it saying what to use instead, doesn't get much more obvious than that.

It's sad how much time mods spend saying "x is no longer supported on this forum. Please update to a modern version of Minecraft to receive support".

I am sorry, I'm very new to this, but where should "DeferredRegister#create" be placed, right now It's here

	public static final DeferredRegister<Block> BLOCKS = new DeferredRegister#create<>(ForgeRegistries.BLOCKS, VanligMod.MOD_ID);

I am guessing that's wrong becuase it gives a error telling "Invalid Character". Thanks for the quick reply!

# has special Javadoc meaning, it is not meant to be a literal character you use.

Look at the create method and figure out what to do.

As I said, I am very new to modding. What is the create method? I tried searching for" java create method", no luck, could you elaborate on what you mean?

That is not a modding problem, it's a basic Java problem, please learn basic Java before modding. If you do know basic Java and are just a bit confused, look through DeferredRegister, everything you need is there.

"create" is a method name, it is not some special magic Java keyword.

Go into the source code of the DeferredRegister class, find its create method, and look at it.

He's not insulting you. He literally told you what you need to do. If you don't understand it, then you should reevaluate your knowledge of programming languages and libraries before continuing.

Go into the source code of the DeferredRegister class

If only there was a way to do this in an IDE...

find its create method

A method?!?!? That's can be accessed statically?!?!?

21 minutes ago, CruWiT said:

and look at it

Yes.

There is no level of java needed to answer this question. You just have to view a source like you would with any other library you might depend on. Please take the time to learn your IDE and the language you are programming with.

    • So i know for a fact this has been asked before but Render stuff troubles me a little and i didnt find any answer for recent version. I have a custom nausea effect. Currently i add both my nausea effect and the vanilla one for the effect. But the problem is that when I open the inventory, both are listed, while I'd only want mine to show up (both in the inv and on the GUI)   I've arrived to the GameRender (on joined/net/minecraft/client) and also found shaders on client-extra/assets/minecraft/shaders/post and client-extra/assets/minecraft/shaders/program but I'm lost. I understand that its like a regular screen, where I'd render stuff "over" the game depending on data on the server, but If someone could point to the right client and server classes that i can read to see how i can manage this or any tip would be apreciated
