I am having trouble loading my ResourcePackInfo on the mod I am creating

I found an error in the logs that I think might be the problem but I have no idea what this means or where to find it:

      [21:50:57] [Render thread/WARN] [minecraft/ResourcePackInfo]: Couldn't find pack meta for pack mod:gttaa

I am unsure what the pack.mcmeta needs to be or where it should go. Also, when I try to open the mod, it loads but it tells me that there was an error loading the ResourcePackInfo. I looked in the build file and there is already a pack.mcmeta there and this is the code for it:

{
    "pack": {
        "description": "examplemod resources",
        "pack_format": 5,
    }
}

This is called main\pack.mcmeta.

But there is also another one called resources\pack.mcmeta.

The best I can tell is anything I do in the src is instantly done in the build when it is run.

Please Help!

image_2020-12-02_210232.png

I followed the path in this image but only hit the main\pack.mcmeta as the only possible error.

This is my Forum Signature, I am currently attempting to transform it into a small guide for fixing easier issues using spoiler blocks to keep things tidy.

As the most common issue I feel I should put this outside the main bulk:

The only official source for Forge is https://files.minecraftforge.net, and the only site I trust for getting mods is CurseForge.

If you use any site other than these, please take a look at the StopModReposts project and install their browser extension, I would also advise running a virus scan.

For players asking for assistance with Forge please expand the spoiler below and read the appropriate section(s) in its/their entirety.

Spoiler

Logs (Most issues require logs to diagnose):

Spoiler

Please post logs using one of the following sites (Thank you Lumber Wizard for the list):

https://gist.github.com/: 100MB Requires member (Free)

https://paste.gg/: 15MB

https://pastebin.com/: 512KB as guest, 10MB as Pro ($$$)

https://hastebin.com/: 400KB

Do NOT use sites like Mediafire, Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, or a site that has a countdown before offering downloads.

What to provide:

...for Crashes and Runtime issues:

Minecraft 1.14.4 and newer:

Post debug.log

Older versions:

Please update...

...for Installer Issues:

Post your installer log, found in the same place you ran the installer

This log will be called either installer.log or named the same as the installer but with .log on the end

Note for Windows users:

Windows hides file extensions by default so the installer may appear without the .jar extension then when the .log is added the log will appear with the .jar extension

Where to get it:

Mojang Launcher: When using the Mojang launcher debug.log is found in .minecraft\logs.

Twitch Launcher: If you are using the Twitch Launcher, their configurations break Forge's log settings, fortunately there is an easier workaround than I originally thought, this works even with Twitch's installation of the Minecraft launcher as long as it is not launched THROUGH Twitch:

Spoiler
  1. Make sure you have the correct version of Forge installed (some packs are heavily dependent on one specific build of Forge)
  2. Make a launcher profile targeting this version of Forge.
  3. Set the launcher profile's GameDir property to the pack's instance folder (not the instances folder, the folder that has the pack's name on it).
  4. Now launch the pack through that profile and follow the "Mojang Launcher" instructions above.

Reporting Illegal/Inappropriate Adfocus Ads:

Get a screenshot of the URL bar or copy/paste the whole URL into a thread on the General Discussion board with a description of the Ad.

Posting your mod as a GitHub Repo:

Spoiler

When you have an issue with your mod the most helpful thing you can do when asking for help is to provide your code to those helping you. The most convenient way to do this is via GitHub or another source control hub.

When setting up a GitHub Repo it might seem easy to just upload everything, however this method has the potential for mistakes that could lead to trouble later on, it is recommended to use a Git client or to get comfortable with the Git command line. The following instructions will use the Git Command Line and as such they assume you already have it installed and that you have created a repository.

  1. Open a command prompt (CMD, Powershell, Terminal, etc).
  2. Navigate to the folder you extracted Forge’s MDK to (the one that had all the licenses in).
  3. Run the following commands:
    1. git init
    2. git remote add origin [Your Repository's URL]
      • In the case of GitHub it should look like: https://GitHub.com/[Your Username]/[Repo Name].git
    3. git fetch
    4. git checkout --track origin/master
    5. git stage *
    6. git commit -m "[Your commit message]"
    7. git push
  4. Navigate to GitHub and you should now see most of the files.
    • note that it is intentional that some are not synced with GitHub and this is done with the (hidden) .gitignore file that Forge’s MDK has provided (hence the strictness on which folder git init is run from)
  5. Now you can share your GitHub link with those who you are asking for help.

[Workaround line, please ignore]

I switched it to

{
  "pack": {
    "pack_format": 6,
    "description": "practice pack"
  }
}

but for some reason, the name is now loading, but the texture still isn't. I am still getting the black and magenta checkered square

I accidentally got rid of the .png on the end of my texture, and it changed the encoding and I can't figure out how to get it back. I am unsure how I even managed to do it. I guess I didn't really understand the dangers of renaming it. Also, I tried deleting the file and importing it back in, but it automatically tries to encode it incorrectly.

This is now the encoding for the texture that I made:

It won't let me undo the encoding and I also tried deleting it and adding it back in but It automatically resorts to windows - 1252

This is IntelliJ, and I didn't mean to. I thought that I accidentally added the ".png" to the end of it. And when I removed it to try to get the code to identify the texture it switched to text and I can't undo it.

Somehow by renaming the file to something different it removed the opened in text document issue.

Here is one error:

  [Server-Worker-5/WARN] [minecraft/ModelBakery]: Unable to load model:         'gttaa:emerald_ingott.png#inventory' referenced from: gttaa:emerald_ingott.png#inventory:     java.io.FileNotFoundException: gttaa:models/item/emerald_ingott.png.json

But still, my debug.log file is not encoding right and I am unsure why.

This is the debug.log

why is the model bakery trying to load a .png instead of a .json, and why is the file you're looking with the extesnsion .png.json??

and also, is the item/file/whatever that you want really called emerald_ingott? with two t's? could it be a mispelling?

I purposefully spelled it with 2 t's. As for the png.json thing, that was probably when I was renaming some things trying to find the problem.

This is a different problem that I found but I don't know what file isn't being found:

[21:38:39] [Server-Worker-5/ERROR] [minecraft/AtlasTexture]: Using missing texture, unable to load minecraft:textures/gttaa.items/emerald_ingott.png : java.io.FileNotFoundException: minecraft:textures/gttaa.items/emerald_ingott.png

Open Intellij's Gradle settings (the wrench in the Gradle Panel) and for both "Build and run using" and "Run tests using", select idea instead of Gradle, then try running again

Fallback ("No logs are generated"):

If you don't see logs generated in the usual place, provide the launcher_log.txt from .minecraft

Server Not Starting:

Spoiler

If your server does not start or a command window appears and immediately goes away, run the jar manually and provide the output.

Reporting Illegal/Inappropriate Adfocus Ads:

I've just noticed where you're looking, that's not where it generates.

It generates in run/logs

I purposefully spelled it with 2 t's. As for the png.json thing, that was probably when I was renaming some things trying to find the problem.

This is a different problem that I found but I don't know what file isn't being found:

[21:38:39] [Server-Worker-5/ERROR] [minecraft/AtlasTexture]: Using missing texture, unable to load minecraft:textures/gttaa.items/emerald_ingott.png : java.io.FileNotFoundException: minecraft:textures/gttaa.items/emerald_ingott.png

where is your texture located? I think the problem may be with a Resource Location in your code, instead of minecraft:textures/gttaa.items/emerald_ingott.png, shouldn't it be gttaa:items/emerald_ingott.png?

Yes, I had just realized that when you responded, I was looking over the code when I noticed that and fixed it. I know have the texture in-game. Thanks for your help!

      How to register WallOrFloorItem / Torch

      By ChampionAsh5357 · Posted 49 minutes ago

      Nope, you're just registering the item twice. Your block calls this method which creates an item to which you then create another item under the same name.

      How to register WallOrFloorItem / Torch

      By StealthyNoodle · Posted 56 minutes ago

      Certainly! https://github.com/Fnkee/solidrocks I see that I'm running a copy method on the torch, under the ItemTagsProvider (ModItemTagsProvider). That should be transfering data from the block tag into an item tag. Maybe that's what's causing the duplicate registration.

      [1.16.4]How to set the light value of an block

      By Sr_endi · Posted 1 hour ago

      Hey, i know I can set the light value with the Properties when I create a Block. But I want to set the light level in tick() of an TileEntity. I already know how to get the Block/BlockState, but I do not know how to set the light value. How can i set it?

      How to register WallOrFloorItem / Torch

      By ChampionAsh5357 · Posted 1 hour ago

      Well, I wouldn't know, the entire class where the error is occurring is not shown. If you could provide a link to your repo, it would provide more detail. Also, you shouldn't use a vanilla block within a BlockItem placeholder. That will cause all instances of that block to believe that your item is its item representation.
