IT IS YOUR DAMN CLASS. Make the constructor however you need it. IT IS YOUR CODE.

i already have a constructor.

but what do I have to do with IItemHandlerModifiable,

how do I get an inventory from it beacuse when i want to add the solts i need an IInventory?

1 does getCapability return a IModItemHandler ?

nop but it return a LazyOptional which holds the IModItemHandler

That the quoted code makes no sense.

I found the error myself

It's a parameter to your ContainerType.

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean by parameters exactly, do I need to add something to my containertype?

this is my containerType:

	public static final DeferredRegister<ContainerType<?>> CONTAINERS = DeferredRegister.create(ForgeRegistries.CONTAINERS, Cave.Mod_Id);

	public static final RegistryObject<ContainerType<ModEnderChestContainer>> ENDER_CHEST = CONTAINERS.register("mod_ender_chest",
			() -> IForgeContainerType.create(ModEnderChestContainer::new));

Great. Now look at what you are passing in there as parameters...

i just looked at the register class of ContainerType (IForgeContainerType) and this class only needs a single parameter, the IContainerFactory

therefore I don't understand what i should add as a parameter

This was your question. This is the answer. You register it together with your ContainerType, as it is a parameter there.

then it should work that way...?

another thing i use AtomicReference to get the IItemHandlerModifiable:

AtomicReference<IItemHandlerModifiable> itemHandlerModifiable = new AtomicReference<>();
serverPlayer.getCapability(ModCapability.CAPABILITY, null).ifPresent(capability -> itemHandlerModifiable.set(capability));

it should work like this because I've done it before with CapabilityItemHandler.

But when I then right click the enderchest i got an error the IItemHandlerModifiable is null.

when i use the debugger i get this:

Cave.LOGGER.debug("is my Present: " + serverPlayer.getCapability(ModCapability.CAPABILITY, null).isPresent());
[10:11:46] [Server thread/DEBUG] [ne.lu.ca.Cave/]: is my Present: false

but my AttachCapabilitiesEvent is executed

so why is my capability null?

Whyyyyy?

I've tried a long time to find out

is there another possibility?

Unknown with just code snippets posted.

AttachCapabilitiesEvent:

	@SubscribeEvent
	public static void AttachCapabilities(AttachCapabilitiesEvent<Entity> event) {

		if (event.getObject() instanceof PlayerEntity && !(event.getObject() instanceof FakePlayer)) {

			PlayerEntity player = (PlayerEntity) event.getObject();
			event.addCapability(new ResourceLocation("cave:extended_enderchest_gui"), new ModCapability.Provider(player));

		}

	}

PlayerInteractEvent:

	@SubscribeEvent
	public static void PlayerInteract(PlayerInteractEvent.RightClickBlock event) {

		PlayerEntity player = event.getPlayer();
		BlockPos pos = event.getPos();
		World world = event.getWorld();
		BlockState state = world.getBlockState(pos);

		if (state.getBlock() == Blocks.ENDER_CHEST) {

			if (player instanceof ServerPlayerEntity) {

				event.setCanceled(true);
				ServerPlayerEntity serverPlayer = (ServerPlayerEntity) player;
				AtomicReference<IItemHandlerModifiable> itemHandlerModifiable = new AtomicReference<>();
				Cave.LOGGER.debug("is my Present: " + serverPlayer.getCapability(ModCapability.CAPABILITY, null).isPresent());
				serverPlayer.getCapability(ModCapability.CAPABILITY, null).ifPresent(capability -> itemHandlerModifiable.set(capability));
				NetworkHooks.openGui(serverPlayer, new SimpleNamedContainerProvider((id, inventory, playerIn) -> {
					return new ModEnderChestContainer(id, inventory, itemHandlerModifiable.get());
				}, CONTAINER_NAME), pos);

			}

		}

	}

and my Capability (without Storage and Factory):

public class ModCapability {

	@CapabilityInject(IModItemHandler.class)
	public static Capability<IModItemHandler> CAPABILITY = null;

	public ModCapability() {

		CapabilityManager.INSTANCE.register(IModItemHandler.class, new Storage(), new Factory());

	}

	public static class Provider implements ICapabilitySerializable<CompoundNBT> {

		private ModItemStackHandler inventory = new ModItemStackHandler();
		private CombinedInvWrapper invWrapper;
		private LazyOptional<CombinedInvWrapper> optional = LazyOptional.of(() -> invWrapper);
		private PlayerEntity player;

		public Provider(PlayerEntity playerIn) {

			this.player = playerIn;

		}

		@Override
		@SuppressWarnings({ "unchecked" })
		public <T> LazyOptional<T> getCapability(Capability<T> cap, Direction side) {

			if (optional == null) {

				EnderChestInventory enderChestInventory = player.getInventoryEnderChest();
				IItemHandlerModifiable enderChestModifiable = new InvWrapper(enderChestInventory);
				invWrapper = new CombinedInvWrapper(enderChestModifiable, inventory);
				optional = LazyOptional.of(() -> invWrapper);
			}

			return cap == CAPABILITY && cap != null ? (LazyOptional<T>) optional : LazyOptional.empty();

		}

		@Override
		public CompoundNBT serializeNBT() {

			return inventory.serializeNBT();

		}

		@Override

			inventory.deserializeNBT(nbt);

		}

	}

}

To do, what?

um den inhalt einer LazyOptional zu bekommen

17 minutes ago, diesieben07 said:

This will never be true, you initialize the optional field immediately.

Thinking about this now, LazyOptional already has this lazy initialization built in, so you could just do your lazy initializtion in the Supplier you give to LazyOptional

makes sense that means that should work now:

		private ModItemStackHandler inventory = new ModItemStackHandler();
		private CombinedInvWrapper invWrapper;
		private LazyOptional<CombinedInvWrapper> optional = LazyOptional.of(() -> invWrapper);
		private PlayerEntity player;

		public Provider(PlayerEntity playerIn) {

			this.player = playerIn;

		}

		@Override
		@SuppressWarnings({ "unchecked" })
		public <T> LazyOptional<T> getCapability(Capability<T> cap, Direction side) {

			if (!optional.isPresent()) {

				EnderChestInventory enderChestInventory = player.getInventoryEnderChest();
				IItemHandlerModifiable enderChestModifiable = new InvWrapper(enderChestInventory);
				invWrapper = new CombinedInvWrapper(enderChestModifiable, inventory);
				optional = LazyOptional.of(() -> invWrapper);
			}

			return cap == CAPABILITY && cap != null ? (LazyOptional<T>) optional : LazyOptional.empty();

		}

You can't, directly. It could be absent (that's why it's an Optional!). Use orElse or orElseThrow.

like this:

IItemHandlerModifiable itemHandlerModifiable = serverPlayer.getCapability(ModCapability.CAPABILITY, null).orElseThrow(
	() -> new NullPointerException("The mod Capability<IModItemHandler> is null"));

1 hour ago, diesieben07 said:

Just do the lazy initialization in the LazyOptional-supplier.

why in the supplier? does it work on this way:

			if (!optional.isPresent()) {

				optional = LazyOptional.of(() -> {

					EnderChestInventory enderChestInventory = player.getInventoryEnderChest();
					IItemHandlerModifiable enderChestModifiable = new InvWrapper(enderChestInventory);
					invWrapper = new CombinedInvWrapper(enderChestModifiable, inventory);
					return invWrapper;

				});

			}

			return cap == CAPABILITY && cap != null ? (LazyOptional<T>) optional : LazyOptional.empty();

private LazyOptional<CombinedInvWrapper> optional = LazyOptional.of(() -> this will lazy initialized);

EnderChestInventory enderChestInventory = player.getInventoryEnderChest();
IItemHandlerModifiable enderChestModifiable = new InvWrapper(enderChestInventory);
invWrapper = new CombinedInvWrapper(enderChestModifiable, inventory);
return invWrapper;

that can be reduced to 1 line

this is now my Capability Provider:

	public static class Provider implements ICapabilitySerializable<CompoundNBT> {

		private ModItemStackHandler inventory = new ModItemStackHandler();
		private PlayerEntity player;
		private LazyOptional<CombinedInvWrapper> optional = LazyOptional.of(() -> new CombinedInvWrapper(new InvWrapper(player.getInventoryEnderChest()), inventory));

		public Provider(PlayerEntity playerIn) {

			this.player = playerIn;

		}

		@Override

		public <T> LazyOptional<T> getCapability(Capability<T> cap, Direction side) {

			return cap == CAPABILITY && cap != null ? (LazyOptional<T>) optional : LazyOptional.empty();

		}

		@Override
		public CompoundNBT serializeNBT() {

			return inventory.serializeNBT();

		}

		@Override
		public void deserializeNBT(CompoundNBT nbt) {

			inventory.deserializeNBT(nbt);

		}

	}

and now i got this error:

Use the debugger to check why it return the empty optional.

I'm not sure, but I think the LazyOptional isn't initialized because i tried this:

when i search for the message ("this is a test message to find you on the console") on the console i can't find it

CapabilityProvider:

		private ModItemStackHandler inventory = new ModItemStackHandler();
		private PlayerEntity player;
		private LazyOptional<CombinedInvWrapper> optional = LazyOptional.of(() -> {

			// i think this is not called

			Cave.LOGGER.debug("this is a test message to find you on the console");
			// not on the console

			EnderChestInventory enderChestInventory = player.getInventoryEnderChest();
			Cave.LOGGER.debug("enderChestInventory: " + enderChestInventory != null);
			// not on the console

			InvWrapper invWrapper = new InvWrapper(enderChestInventory);
			Cave.LOGGER.debug("invWrapper: " + invWrapper != null);
			// not on the console

			CombinedInvWrapper combinedInvWrapper = new CombinedInvWrapper(invWrapper, inventory);
			Cave.LOGGER.debug("inventory: " + inventory != null);
			Cave.LOGGER.debug("combinedInvWrapper: " + combinedInvWrapper != null);
			// not on the console

			return combinedInvWrapper;

		});

		public Provider(PlayerEntity playerIn) {

			this.player = playerIn;

		}

		@Override
		@SuppressWarnings({ "unchecked" })
		public <T> LazyOptional<T> getCapability(Capability<T> cap, Direction side) {

			Cave.LOGGER.debug("getCapability: cap == CAPABILITY: " + (cap == CAPABILITY));
			// on the console: return true

			Cave.LOGGER.debug("getCapability: cap != null: " + cap != null);
			// on the console: return true

			Cave.LOGGER.debug("optional: " + optional.isPresent());
			// on the console: return true

			return cap == CAPABILITY && cap != null ? (LazyOptional<T>) optional : LazyOptional.empty();

		}

and the event:

			if (player instanceof ServerPlayerEntity) {

				event.setCanceled(true);
				ServerPlayerEntity serverPlayer = (ServerPlayerEntity) player;
				IItemHandlerModifiable itemHandlerModifiable = serverPlayer.getCapability(ModCapability.CAPABILITY, null).orElseThrow(
				() -> new NullPointerException("The mod Capability<IModItemHandler> is null"));

				Cave.LOGGER.debug("getCapability isPresent:  " + serverPlayer.getCapability(ModCapability.CAPABILITY, null).isPresent());
				// on the console: return false

				if (itemHandlerModifiable != null) {

					NetworkHooks.openGui(serverPlayer, new SimpleNamedContainerProvider((id, inventory, playerIn) -> {
						return new ModEnderChestContainer(id, inventory, itemHandlerModifiable);
					}, CONTAINER_NAME), pos);

				}

			}

if someone still has an idea what i can do to find the problem i am open to suggestions

You never register your capability.

if i understand the forge doc correctly

i have to run the constructor in my capability class but in which FML setup do i have to do this (FMLCommonSetupEvent)

Oh and by the way, adding debug logs is not "using the debugger".

Why are you doing it in the constructor? It makes no sense to do it there.

FMLCommonSetupEvent is the correct event.

I get an error again (cannot be cast)

now my question do i need this method in my container:

assertInventorySize((IInventory) itemHandlerModifiable, 6 * 9);

because I cannot cast IItemHandlerModifiable to an IInventory

when i need them what do i have to use there instead

if I understand it correctly, the method only looks if the inventory doesn't have too many inventory slots. if there is too much, it will issue an error

now i got another error the container is opened but has no slots:

The constructor used by your IContainerFactory (here) does not add any slots. This means the client side container won't have any slots. You must add identical slots on client and server.

okay if I want to add slots there (those of the container) I need an IItemHandlerModifiable.

Can I save the IItemHandlerModifiable from the server constructor in a field and then use it in the client constructor?

No. You need to get it from the player, same way you do on the server.

okay i now have slots in the container they are not in the correct position yet but that should be a matter of setting

unfortunately it still doesn't do perfect:

the enderchest inventory works but in my inventory only the first slot works,

the others are displayed but I can't put any items in the slots

    • Hello, I'm trying to modify the effects of native enchantments for bows and arrows in Minecraft. After using a decompilation tool, I found that the specific implementations of native bow and arrow enchantments (including `ArrowDamageEnchantment`, `ArrowKnockbackEnchantment`, `ArrowFireEnchantment`, `ArrowInfiniteEnchantment`, `ArrowPiercingEnchantment`) do not contain any information about the enchantment effects (such as the `getDamageProtection` function for `ProtectionEnchantment`, `getDamageBonus` function for `DamageEnchantment`, etc.). Upon searching for the base class of arrows, `AbstractArrow`, I found a function named setEnchantmentEffectsFromEntity`, which seems to be used to retrieve the enchantment levels of the tool held by a `LivingEntity` and calculate the specific values of the enchantment effects. However, after testing with the following code, I found that this function is not being called: @Mixin(AbstractArrow.class) public class ModifyArrowEnchantmentEffects { private static final Logger LOGGER = LogUtils.getLogger(); @Inject( method = "setEnchantmentEffectsFromEntity", at = @At("HEAD") ) private void logArrowEnchantmentEffectsFromEntity(CallbackInfo ci) { LOGGER.info("Arrow enchantment effects from entity"); } } Upon further investigation, I found that within the onHitEntity method, there are several lines of code: if (!this.level().isClientSide && entity1 instanceof LivingEntity) { EnchantmentHelper.doPostHurtEffects(livingentity, entity1); EnchantmentHelper.doPostDamageEffects((LivingEntity)entity1, livingentity); } These lines of code actually call the doPostHurt and doPostAttack methods of each enchantment in the enchantment list. However, this leads back to the issue because native bow and arrow enchantments do not implement these functions. Although their base class defines the functions, they are empty. At this point, I'm completely stumped and seeking assistance. Thank you.
