    Mods don't show up

    Ive tried other mods too and none of them show up. I deleted tough as nails after seeing that it wouldnt work but the rest that I've tried just aren't appearing in the game either. Is there anything I can do, or all of the mods I'm trying just messed up in one way or another?

    I'm brand new to modding and don't know much, but I followed all of the instructions to install and run Forge. The "mods" folder showed up, as well as the button in the game menu, but my mods that I download don't show up in the list. The .jar file for the mod is in the folder, and it was recently updated to work for my version of Minecraft, so what gives?
