I'm extremely new to modding Minecraft (never done this before) and I am currently just trying things out to get a grip on how to write simple mods. I've currently got a test block called SoftObsidian which (just for testing purposes) uses the texture of it's item which has a bit of transparency around it. The block that is drawn in my inventory has the proper transparency applied to it but the actual bock in the world does not, that just turns the transparent parts into white

The class for the SoftObsidian block
public class SoftObsidian extends Block
{
public SoftObsidian()
{
super(Material.GLASS);//Attempt to get it to draw the transparent parts properly, didn't work
setUnlocalizedName(Reference.MODID + ":" + Reference.ComputerModBlocks.SOFTOBSIDIAN.getUnlocalizedName());
setRegistryName(Reference.ComputerModBlocks.SOFTOBSIDIAN.getRegistryName());
setCreativeTab(ComputerMod.computerCreativeTab);
}
@Override
public boolean isOpaqueCube(IBlockState state)
{
return false;
}
@Override
public boolean isTranslucent(IBlockState state)
{
return true;
}
}
The texture has it's transparency setup properly (the first item in my inventory has the exact same texture for now) but when drawn in the world on a block it just turns white. I've tried to override the isOpaqueCube and isTranslucent inside the class for this block but neither make a difference.
The block itself is setup properly and there are no errors thrown in the console, what do I need to do to make this block appear transparent in the world?
