  1. Manually downloading it made it download farther but it still got stuck at "unpacking packed file scala-compiler-2.11.1 jar.pack.xz". I fixed the issue by going into my previous .minecraft and pasting over all of the scala logs.
  2. Well it wasn't, it got stuck at "unpacking packed file scala-compiler-2.11.1 jar.pack.xz" no matter what I tried, it would create a folder in the versions with nothing inside and wouldn't show up in the versions section of the launcher.
  3. "There is an installer for 1.6.x versions and above of Forge. USE IT, it will solve 80% of all your problems. Do not use the universal install." The above is not telling you to use the 1.6 version of minecraft, it's telling you that for 1.6.x versions and higher there is a specific forge installer for each version and to use that rather than the universal forge installer. As for support for "legacy version of minecraft and forge" the rules state that if instructions in there don't help you then you're on your own due to lack of manpower to offer support for every version
  4. Yesterday I deleted my .minecraft (something I've done 7 times previously and have had no previous issue reinstalling forge) to clear up my logs/screenshots and any other useless files I've collected along the way. I redownloaded 1.12.2, waited for it to download and launch, closed minecraft and clicked on my forge installer to install it. Every time it starts installing but gets stuck on "unpacking packed file scala-compiler-2.11.1 jar.pack.xz" every time, no matter what. I've tried using different versions of forge, different versions of minecraft (all the way down to 1.8.9), I've tried using the "java -Xmx1g -jar " command, I've tried using the "java -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -jar" command, I've uninstalled and reinstalled minecraft twice, deleted all forge variants from my computer, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling java twice, I've restarted my computer numerous times, turned off my firewall/antivirus, gone through and allowed every java variant through the firewall. Here are the logs from just running the installer normally, https://pastebin.com/hzKyGk9a Here are the logs from using the "java -Xmx1g -jar " command, https://pastebin.com/03JtxW1M Here are the logs from using the "java -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -jar" command, https://pastebin.com/fevsWktf
