The game crashed whilst rendering screen Error: java.lang.NullPointerException: Cannot invoke "net.minecraft.world.item.ItemStack.m_41720_()" because "stack" is null Exit Code: -1 when I tried the same action (clicking on the Search button) with the most recent Forge (.95). I noticed I've forgotten to remove the resource pack I have been using, so in case THAT's what's my issue, I'll do that. Launcher doesn't present me with debug.log, but rather with a "crash report." Not sure whether they're the same.

Would it show up in a different log file perhaps? I don't know the various log file types and what they're associated with, I know I got "EXCEPTION" messages in the logs I have looked at ... like this: ====================== Description: Rendering screen java.lang.NullPointerException: Cannot invoke "net.minecraft.world.item.ItemStack.m_41720_()" because "stack" is null at net.minecraftforge.client.RenderProperties.get(RenderProperties.java:43) ~[forge-1.17.1-37.0.90-universal.jar%2357!:?] {re:classloading} at net.minecraftforge.client.ForgeHooksClient.getTooltipFont(ForgeHooksClient.java:1089) ~[forge-1.17.1-37.0.90-universal.jar%2357!:?] {re:classloading} ======================================= I also see a .gzip file from the time of the crash, but it's not readable (by me) So where do we go to figure out what is not working when we get Exceptions but there's no crash? I'll go re-read the instructions too.

First-time poster, longtime MC Forge player, please be kind, and thank you for your excellent work! I've been experiencing crashes now since about Forge 1.17.1-37.0.88, so I removed all mods and tried running a new world. Previously *with* a few mods installed crashes took a few hours of play before occurring, but this time the 2nd time that I tried to use the Crafting Table (within around 5 minutes), when I was trying to switch the recipe view to show only craftable items, the game stopped and dumped me out to the loader. Debug.log is at <script src="https://gist.github.com/frag0nard/073c4f504a3358f5910ec17413243ab8.js"></script>

I play episodically. I admire those who build and explore fantastic worlds, but am not (at least so far) one of them. I do find that watching YouTube accounts like fWhip and pixlriffs and even paulsoaresjr will often inspire me to go do something (or try to) in my own worlds. I'm a very cautious player, though, and so, I haven't progressed nearly as far as some of their exploits go. (I still haven't found a nether fortress to conquer :-(). I'd like to understand redstone better. I built a sugar cane farm from one of pixlriffs' videos, and I'd like to do more farming like that. I'm not by nature terribly imaginative, I think. But following someone else's model, makes it work for me. I do miss the mods and shaders in most of my 1.14 worlds, though I'm doing better at getting along in very vanilla worlds.

Questions about the future of modding....
grownupgamer replied to vpontin's topic in Minecraft General
Popping my head up, just to say, I'm still keeping up on things Forge and MC. I've lately begun playing a couple of 1.13 worlds in earnest - those grandsons having renewed their interest in this game, with Pokemon Go interest ebbing some for them. Yay! Be well, all! -
Questions about the future of modding....

I've pondered this issue too, and for now, I am content to spread my gaming time a bit more broadly. I tried Skyrim SE (The Elder Scrolls) for the first time, a week or so ago. Interesting to me, that game ALSO has a bit of diversity in how people mod it and run it. Several different "mod organizers" are in use in that gaming tribe. Like @vpontin, I am mostly happy to continue on 1.12 Minecraft games while we wait for a new Forge update. (My two young grandsons casually play 1.13, but they are not seriously doing a lot there, so I get a glimpse when I visit them, of the updates. ) I do admit that checking on the status of work on Forge keeps me looking in here, and staying abreast of things MineCraft! Neither game is all that bad played Vanilla, IMO. However, both do look a lot nicer with mods and some of the things mods can let a player try, are worth the wait. -
What mods are you hoping get a 1.13 release?

I think I'm going back to my 1.12 worlds. I'm finding that it's not all that fun trying to explore without a map. Besides, in my 1.13 worlds so far, none of the turtles have hatched shells for me to use to craft helmets. Not knowing if there will be a point when the mods can rely on a 100 percent completion of Forge is discouraging, I have to say. -
@vpontin, you got my curiosity piqued, so I went and looked around at drivers. Are you running Windows 10? If so, you can go to System/Graphics Settings/Graphics Performance Preference and set specific applications, to use specific graphic options. I never got to the point where I could get the game itself to use the AMD card, myself, so I don't know how helpful this is, but it may be an avenue to look into. Yep, minimap is the most vital of the pair from Xaeros, I agree. (I am mostly a SSP player)

Heh. To be fair, AMD isn't all that open about its projects, either! And AMD makes plenty of profit off its cards. Your game crashes, trying to use the latest drivers? I also have both Intel and AMD graphics options, and I briefly tried to figure out how to switch graphics, but decided *AMD* was not worth it. I really find I hate exploring "blind," and Xaeros' mods always seemed to work well, for me. So I guess I'll stay with them. BTW, I got a 1.13. *1* update for Minecraft a week or so ago. Oh, I'm sure THAT won't bother any of the Forge coding progress at all. ..... Sigh.

I have only dipped a toe into mods, myself. I am a miner, it seems, who dabbles in building and does lots of exploring. I am waiting only somewhat patiently for Forge for 1.13 mainly because I hate noting down map coordinates. So I need a mapping tool - my favorite is Xaeros' world map and minimap. I also like to fool around with the physical appearance of the things in my worlds. So I like texture packs and Optifine and SEUS and a couple of esthetic texture mods. Interesting thread, gives me lots of things to explore myself!
