1.14 stairs and slabs no longer transparent to light

The new rendering in 1.14 update no longer let light shine through the half blocks like stairs and slabs. Is there anyway to change this back, possibly with modding? Many of my buildings use that transparency feature to decorate and they look much less attractive without the feature. Many thanks
