Are there many differences from 1.12 till the 1.14 or just basic changes and some added items? Because i'm just used to 1.14 right now, so i just wanna know, cause i wanna try to mod the game, it looks really nice

Hi, i'm a newbie at the process of installing mods at minecraft and i wanna know if there is something i need to know besides the need to download the forge of course... btw the 1.14.2 version still don't have support for it? And whats the .jar file i have been read in some places related to mods? Thx for the help and sorry for the bother ;-;
