Uhmm sorry for sounding like an idiot, but where would I find the installer log? Appdata? Or the installer itself? Sorry I'm new to all of this.

So I was updating my forge account from 1.12.2-14.23.5.2768 to 1.12.2-14.23.5.2838 and the update went smoothly and forge said it installed to my launcher, however the instal version says it is still 14.23.5.2768, but when checking the version in appdata it is in fact 14.23.5.2838, so I ran the version, but an error message pops up stating "Error! Unable to start game" Did I do something wrong? and if so, how do I fix it? 1.12.2-1
