    Help downloading

    I need some help downloading. I used the recommended download and have java installed, I tried the Installer way first but when it was done and opened it just popped up a black screen which quickly disappeared, then I tried doing the universal download and it did the same. I'm new to mods and stuff in minecraft so can someone help me out
