Alright problem solved. A little bit more googling and I was able to get the installer to open. -

I have java edition of minecraft installed. And just updated the java runtime environment. Just not sure how to install the newest version of forge for minecraft. -

Trying to install the latest version of minecraft forge for my son and everything is in a .jar file. When I download said file it just opens a notepad with all the coding I am assuming. What am I doing wrong, previous versions would open a launcher to install forge. Please help getting a wee bit frustrated
