    Alright problem solved. A little bit more googling and I was able to get the installer to open.

    I have java edition of minecraft installed. And just updated the java runtime environment. Just not sure how to install the newest version of forge for minecraft.

    Trying to install the latest version of minecraft forge for my son and everything is in a .jar file. When I download said file it just opens a notepad with all the coding I am assuming. What am I doing wrong, previous versions would open a launcher to install forge. Please help getting a wee bit frustrated
