    Jesus christ. Sorry about that. After manually setting the runtime in advanced options, I was able to get 1.12.2 and 1.14.4 to launch. Thank you for your help.

    After an hour of work, I got Java 1.8.0_222 installed in my path and both "java -version" and "which java" give java 1.8.0_222 as my version using the bash section of https://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/essential/environment/paths.html Here are new crash logs of 1.12.2-14.23.5.2768, https://gist.github.com/Ebot75/f98d7ffe9348827ca72461518e618d6d and 1.14.2-28.1.0, https://gist.github.com/Ebot75/3bc018e7bb4d28d6ca640a74d9171172. In both of them is an "unknown key" error; vanilla minecraft continues to work.

    At the risk of sounding dumb, how can I change my java version to Java 8? I've downloaded JRE & JDK 8 and ran JAVA-HOME=, including even trying to purge Java and then installing JRE 8, but I just rebooted and I'm still running Java 11.0.4, according to java -version.

    1.7.10 couldn't verify a checksum, so I checked 1.12.2, which crashed on launch, so I checked 1.14.4, which now I have a launcher file, which requires an installation file, but both the recommended and the latest couldn't be downloaded until suddenly the links stopped automatically closing themselves so now I have the forge 1.14.4-28.1.0 installer and launcher duo, but when I launch the launcher in terminal (Linux Mint 19.2...) "FATAL ERROR, You need to run the installer. The libraries required to launch a server are missing." This is despite "Successfully installed client profile forge for version 1.14.4-28.1.0 into launcher" "Maybe it's in the Minecraft launcher, not in the Forge Launcher" lo and behold, I found my install. I click it. It launches. "ERROR: Game Crashed."
