    Ok this is solved now. Apparently i just had to leave the server running for a bit in order to connect.

    So i am using McMyAdmin and have set up everything like i usually do when making a server but i get the io netty error when trying to connect via my public ip. I set up port forwarding (using a Frontier router). When using a port forwarding check it comes back as true so i dont know what im doing wrong. I have no mods installed at the moment but intend to in the future.
