Alright but what if i wanna download a mod like custom npcs and the latest version is 1.12.2? and yeah prob shouldnt have done that

i also use mac and for some reason it doesn't download 1.12.2 forge. ihave downloaded 1.12.2 minecraft on my launcher but it still just hangs when im downloadin it. it hangs when it say "unpacking packed files" i tried to open a topic on this but they gave a solution that i just couldnt understand so a step by step would be nice. Pls help, i know its a diff prob but im out of options. IMG_2548.HEIC

So i got a mac pro, and every time i download 1.12.2 forge but it keeps gettin stuck when it says, "unpacking packed files" and ive waited for an hour just to see if its slow but it stays the same so i have no idea what to do. Ive seen other posts for solutions but tbh, i have no idea what they are talkin about so a step by step process would be nice.
