Ahem!!! Also, if I install it manually, the Mojang logo doesn't even SHOW UP. With MCPatcher it does. Does this sound right to you?: I just dragged all of the contents from the zip file into minecraft.jar using 7-zip. here's another log, from without using MCPatcher.

I have the latest version of Forge, and I've tried installing both manually and wih MCPatcher. I still get the black screen. from the log:
