It seems all I had to do was be a little patient. Once I cleaned out my coremods Forge DID install correctly, but once it installs it takes Minecraft take a little while to load up. So it was just my being an impatient whiner to blame. It works just fine now!

Cleaned the core mods and now I'm just getting a black screen right after the Mojang logo.
