how do i check if a mod works without it do i delete the mod all the way or is there a alternative

I open the game, loads to around 9 stars and then it stays on not responding for a while, using 100% of my CPU and after crashes and gives the following error. I keep getting the following error when I try to start up minecraft. The game crashed whilst rendering overlay Error: net.minecraftforge.fml.ModLoadingException: ConnectedTexturesMod (ctm) encountered an error during the done event phase This happens after the game goes into full screen but before the main menu can load.
