The only way I've been able to get 1.6.2 to recognize a user is to pass both the --username and --session arguments in, directly copying the sessionID from the new Minecraft launcher (under the "Session ID is token:******************:************" line). I'm not sure how long that token remains valid, however, and they will become invalid if you open a new Minecraft instance from the launcher.
