Its not that I care about those files (was trying to explain why I went for a different version), but they gave me the same problem I'm asking about - ie the forge version would not come up in profile editor so I assumed the missing file was the problem. Hence looking for a different version. And yes, we are using the official minecraft launcher. As to install logs - no idea where to find install logs. I can see the logs file in minecraft folder, but not sure which one is the installer log.

Thanks. That explains the missing Jar file in 1450. I was looking at the 1.7.10 install and trying to replicate the files in new version. Using Minecraft Launcher 1.6.44

Hi, Hoping someone can help me. I'm not into Minecraft, but trying to sort this for my 8yo son. I've been trying to load Forge 1.8 for him. Currently running 1.7.10, which has worked fine. I initially tried to load Forge 1.8 - 11.14.3.1450 but it would only install the JSON file. I tried using 11.14.3.1334, which appears to have installed correctly in the Minecraft Versions folder. Used the Windows installers in both cases. My problem though is when I launch MC and go to either modify existing profile or create a new profile, I do not get the option to use the Forge 1.8 release in the "Use Version" dropdown. Only showing 1.7.10. I have installed MC 1.8 and run that on a new profile with no dramas. Then installed Forge 1.8 as above. Then I go to load new profile and cant do it. Don't know what else to try. Im not getting any error messages, so don't know where to go from here. Hoping someone can help me, as son is wanting to play 1.8 with his friends. Thanks in advance.
