I tried that, it says it can't resolve 'player'.

I'm new to forge and modding (I am experienced with Java though). How do I go about giving the player an ItemStack. I know, it's simple, but I can't find anywhere the method to do so. I'm using 1.7.10 forge, and help is appreciated.
