I cant select 1.7.10 forge. Also how do i post a log im conufused on that?

Im new so if this is a stupid problem dont kill me. Basically i run the install client for 1.7.10 (recommended) and it does nothing. It says it put it in my launcher but nothing. I checked my .minecraft folder and nothing changed. I tried the 1.8 installer and it came up with "and garbed X libraries" and on 1.7.10 it didn't. 1.8 works fine . PLs help :'(
