ok so i downloaded the forge server files for 1.16.5, i made the run.bat file i renamed the forge server file to forgeserver.jar, and when i tried to run it, it keeps trying to run in java 16, which isnt supported. so i downloaded java LTS 8, but the server is still trying to run java 16. so all i need is how do i make it run with java 8.

ok its not working so i think i did it wrong but, is this somewhat how it should look?

instead of just "java"

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Java"

ok so it stops the server very quickly and gives me this (this isnt the whole error message but i can send that if needed

'C:\Program' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

also this is what the .bat file looks like

C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_301\bin\java -jar forge.jar -Xmx4096M -Xms4096M -jar forgeserver.jar nogui
PAUSE

ok so i did this

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_301\bin\java -jar forge.jar" -Xmx4096M -Xms4096M -jar forgeserver.jar nogui
PAUSE

and it gave me this

'"C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_301\bin\java -jar forge.jar"' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

oh wait, ok i put moved the second " to after java, and it says this instead. (idk if this means anything)

Error: Unable to access jarfile forge.jar

yeah i have all my server stuff in one folder. but i just tried something i dont know if i was supposed to do it but i tried changing something in the bat folder, if its really messed up i can change it back.

it was this

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_301\bin\java" -jar forge.jar -Xmx4096M -Xms4096M -jar forgeserver.jar nogui
PAUSE

But now its this

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_301\bin\java" -jar forgeserver.jar -Xmx4096M -Xms4096M -jar forgeserver.jar nogui
PAUSE

And it gave me a decent load up but then gave me a big error

[main/FATAL] [minecraft/Main]: Failed to start the minecraft server
