Forge installer doesn't work with Windows Store version of Java Edition

So I just downloaded the launcher through xbox app (bc of gamepass) and installed the Java version 1.16.5.  When trying to install Forge, it gives an error saying there are no profiles. That's because microsoft store version doesn't create "launcher_profiles.json" but "launcher_profiles_microsoft_store.json".

Is there any work around on this problem? Any way I can manually edit this file?

Contents of the log file (removed pc name)

JVM info: Oracle Corporation - 17.0.1 - 17.0.1+12-LTS-39
java.net.preferIPv4Stack=true
Found java version 17.0.1
There is no minecraft launcher profile at "C:\Users\*******\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\launcher_profiles.json", you need to run the launcher first!

I FOUND A FIX AROUND THIS PROBLEM

But devs, please add a native support to microsoft store version.

___

  1. Go to your .minecraft folder (ex: "C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft")
  2. Copy and paste "launcher_profiles_microsoft_store.json"
  3. Rename the new copy to "launcher_profiles.json"
  4. Use the installer to install the client.
  5. After it's done, change the name from "launcher_profiles.json" to "launcher_profiles_microsoft_store.json" (or just edit it's content with notepad++)

Don't forget to get a backup while you're doing that.

PSA
Mojang/Microsoft have released a new Minecraft Launcher, in the form of a Windows Store app that includes the ability to launch java and bedrock (and dungeons) from the same app.
This new launcher keeps the data in a new folder and it will NOT show the automatic forge installation (or any of your existing profiles) in it.
It does however show the forge versions in the list, which means that the solution is easy: just create new installations yourself, pointing to the right Game Directories.

Although mine is installed from microsoft store, but it is already in name of "launcher_profiles.json" instead of "launcher_profiles_microsoft_store.json" when looking up to that file.
