When you press F3 bunch of information is displayed on the screen. I'd like to do something similar.

I tried using GUI window with text labels on it, but when it is open the game runs in the background but the player can't move and the background has this gray semitransparent overlay that I do not want. 

Is it possible to create something like that and how? Thanks.
