Pickarang duping glitch

I was messing around in a world with the pickarang and i threw it at an item i had dropped it picked it up but when i received it i had 2 times the amount i had thrown and i was able to do it again and it was just duplicated (this is in 1.12.2 may have went on to newer versions).
