More Uses for Coral

Featured Replies

I love this mod a lot, and I can't think of very many ways to improve it, but I do have one, at least:  uses for the coral besides looking pretty.

I think being able to craft coral blocks and a coral trident would be a great addition to this already fantastic mod.  Coral blocks would allow players who like to build structures underwater (such as myself) to be able to build absolutely beautiful underwater buildings that don't look out of place in the slightest underwater (unlike current building materials, which all look a bit out of place when used in buildings at the bottom off the ocean).

A coral trident would also be a great addition.  Swimming around with one in hand would look absolutely awesome!  I think it should be twice as long from the base of the handle to the tip of the center tine as a sword is from base of the handle to the tip of the blade, since a short trident wouldn't look as great.  On that note, maybe it could have extended reach like the Valkyrie Lance in the Aether Mod.  As for crafting it, I think it should consume at least one of each of the four colors of coral in the recipe for it, as well as using some amethyst in the recipe, so as to keep a weapon with extended reach from being able to be obtained too early.  Perhaps the recipe could require the handle and each tine to be a separate item, so you'd have to craft each one individually first, then assemble all four parts together to get the weapon.

In the end, the idea may be mine, but the mod isn't, so if the developers don't want to utilize my ides, that's still fine.  The mod is still incredible already, and having my ideas turned down wouldn't stop me from still using this mod.

Still, I hope you consider my ideas, and I leave the rest up to you.  Thank you.

I do think coral should have some use, but with it being so common in the Coral Reef, I can't really use it for a weapon or something like that, unless it's combined with a rare item.

Coral blocks could work.  We could do bricks and stairs and whatnot for it as well.

Thanks for considering the blocks.  I understand that a coral trident couldn't just be a run-of-the-mill item.  That's why I suggested using Amethyst in the recipe along with the coral.  That way, such an awesome weapon couldn't be gotten too early.  If Amethyst isn't a rare enough item, though, I'll think of something else, then I'll get back to you on that.

EDIT:  Okay.  I've come up with a crafting recipe for the trident, in case you'll still consider it.  It consists of multiple parts, like the ancient staff.

I'm going to list the recipe for each part, and then the recipe for combining them.

You could make some sort of coral decoration:

Coral pieces you can place in your house to look nice. (Beside putting them into an item frame)

A placed Glowing Coral could work as a torch, maybe as bright as a Redstone Torch.

Well, I like the suggestions here but think of this - coral is rather frail but very sharp. Low durability tools perhaps? A little run down maybe...

How about just making dyes out of them? Simple and useful and I think it fits quite well with Minecraft's theme.

We already have enough ways to make dyes included in BoP.  I don't think we need more.  I'd just like a coral castle and city underwater, and maybe some equipment.  More ways to make dyes would just be boring, and it's been done a lot of times already.  Please just leave it to the many flowers already in BoP.
