Hi! Is there a way to actually run a server with the mod i'm currently working on within eclipse, that way every time I wan't to test it on a server I don't have to recompile, etc.. I've tried placing the mincraft_server.jar in the jars folder but that doesn't seem to work.

Once you have set up forge and eclipse correctly, there's a test for both client and server.

 

Hit the little green > button up in the top-left corner. The drop down arrow next to it lets you choose client or server, and it'll auto-run whichever you tested most recently.
