Installer JAR Not Creating JAR file in versions directory

I am on Linux Mint trying to install 1.12.2-forge-14.23.5.2859 with the installer JAR file. My system variables are configured properly and my default java is not headless. I have maven, libcanberragtk, and libcanberragtk3. downloaded which I also read could help. The folder that the installer creates in .minecraft/versions only contains 1.12.2-forge-14.23.5.2859.json, when it should also contain 1.12.2-forge-14.23.5.2859.jar. I am having the same problem with other versions of the installer. When I try to run the profile, it fails due to not being able to find this file. Any help is appreciated!
