Getting kicked out of server due to chat messages

Recently a friend of mine started a modded server using mods on curseforge but I am having a lot of issues. Besides the fact that I can’t see anyone’s skins, I am also experiencing the worst bug I have ever had. Every single time that another player sends a message in the chat I am immediately kicked out of the server. I also can’t type in chat myself. I keep getting a message about some kind of chat validation error but all the stuff I can find online about that error seem to apply to very different situations. If someone recognises the issue I would appreciate any help. (The server is on version 1.20.1 btw)
