When i add a system.out message to the client proxy and the common proxy only the client proxy prints the line

why is my common proxy not working?

On the client you will always get the ClientProxy, on the server you will get the CommonProxy. If you want both to execute on the client, you have to call super.whatever() from the overridden ClientProxy methods.
