i have a block that when you click on it it changes the texture but when i click on it the texture is not updating

package com.riley.coolerStuff;

import net.minecraft.block.Block;

import net.minecraft.block.material.Material;

import net.minecraft.creativetab.CreativeTabs;

import net.minecraft.entity.player.EntityPlayer;

import net.minecraft.world.World;

public class CamouflageBlock extends Block {

public CamouflageBlock(Material material) {

super(material);

setBlockName("camouflageBlock");

setCreativeTab(CreativeTabs.tabBlock);

setBlockTextureName("sand");

}

@Override

public boolean onBlockActivated(World world, int X,int Y, int Z, EntityPlayer player,int p_149727_6_, float p_149727_7_, float p_149727_8_,float p_149727_9_) {

//player.getHeldItem().getIconIndex().getIconName();

//System.out.println©;

setBlockTextureName("dirt");

return super.onBlockActivated(world, X, Y,Z, player, p_149727_6_, p_149727_7_, p_149727_8_,p_149727_9_);

Hi

I think you have basically two choices

1) Use a TileEntity like dieSieben said

or

2) If your block only needs to have a few (<=16) different textures, you could override Block.getIcon(metadata, side)

see the Block Rendering sections at

http://greyminecraftcoder.blogspot.com.au/p/list-of-topics.html

The main differences between the two methods is that

1) TileEntity will redraw itself every 1/20 of a second, whereas blocks are compiled into a "renderlist" which is only updated when the block changes, so if you change the return value from getIcon it won't do anything unless you trigger an update of the block (for example, using World.setBlockMetadataWithNotify)

2) TileEntities can store whatever you want (and take up a lot more space), Block metadata is limited to an integer from 0 to 15.
