sorry  what does second line mean and I tried that code didn't work also does It matter that my items class is separate from where the code for the recipe is

Change the double quotes on the single S to single quotes.. (from " to ')

thanks so much im new to java thought Id learn and make a mod at the same time such a simple mistake had the same mistake on block with these " before and after the code name SteelBlock
