Cannot find/join forge servers

After having installed forge on my computer I cannot find the server that I play on. It just keeps infinitely searching for the server.

I followed the exact same process my roommate did to install Forge. He can get into the server but I cannot. Forge works perfectly fine on client.

The only difference is that I am running it on Windows 8 and my roommate on Windows 7.

 

The version of Forge that I am using is 1.7.2. I can find the server when I use Forge 1.6.4, however the server is running 1.7.2 so I can't log into it. Other solutions I've tried is checking my firewall and antivirus.

 

I've been reading that Windows 8 might be the problem here but I haven't found a concrete explanation.

Any help would be much appreciated.

 

Info: I am on a Gateway running Windows 8

        I'm running Java-64 bit
