So I have a bunch of models. They have no textures. They are in obj format but I can probably convert them to something else if needed be. How can I load these into the game and show them in the world?

I don't want them to be blocks or entities or anything fancy. They would behave like clouds, except stationary. They just have to appear where I want them to (the position would be harcoded).

I should probably note, the models are quite big. Bigger than 16x16 chunks, which is the max render distance. I hope that's not a problem.

Any help is appreciated.

I'm not sure how to make them appear like that, but a 16x16 chunk model would probably create intense lag.

Check out my mod, Realms of Chaos, here.

Surely it wouldn't. I can already see these models with other programs without problems. There shouldn't be "intense lag", unless Minecraft adds some overhead for some reason.

Just because you can load and view the model in another program and not lag doesn't mean it'll work the same way in Minecraft. Especially because in order to render .obj models, as far as I know you need a tile entity and TESR. TESRs update every tick, so your model would effectively be re-rendered every tick, and that would cause extreme lag.

Bah, it'll probably be fine. Worst case scenario I can just make it so only one or two of the models are shown at the same time.

So I need a TESR, you say? This thing here? Seems to be what I need. I'll check it out.
