Beacon GUI renders button overlays inexistent in vanilla

Minecraft: 1.7.10

I think this started to happen from 1.7.2 on.

 

Open the beacon GUI in vanilla:

Then with Forge 1217:

Can you spot the difference? Every button renders a black overlay with 4 green-blue corners. No MCPatcher or mod installed, nor using a resource pack.
