Hey guys,

Im trying to make an own mob and got stuck on getting it to move around and do stuff like other mobs I found the AI tasks, so im right on creating my own tasks extending EntityAIBase? (I'm making a flying mob so I dont want to use the normal tasks)

Where am I going to handle the tasks, like starting and finishing them?

Only found the method

    protected void updateAITasks(){}

in EntityLiving

but aint sure what to do there..

Thanks in advance :)

Well, I've never created an AI but I'll try to help you.

My best guess is this:

In your constructor add a parameter:

public YouAIName(EntityLiving entity){

}

Add the code in their, you said you wanted it to fly right?

If so add something like this:

public YouAIName(EntityLiving entity){
     entity.setFlying(true);
}

I don't think that  the setFlying method exists but something like that. Hope this helped. :)

Ah, Yeah. I did that a while ago. I will try to post something useful in a few hours when i am back home.

But flying? sounds awesome. What kind of mob are you trying to create? (I? out of ideas for my own mod? Nooo way ;P )

Here could be your advertisement!

You might want to look at my tutorial about AI: http://jabelarminecraft.blogspot.com/p/minecraft-forge-1721710-custom-entity-ai.html

I didn't actually do much with a custom AI itself, but I explain a lot about how the AI works generally.

Also, if you're doing custom mobs you might want to check out the rest of my tutorial for custom living entities: http://jabelarminecraft.blogspot.com/p/creating-custom-entities.html

Hi me again :P

So, I thought it may be a good idea to use the EntityAIWander and the just handle the motionY in the update method of my entity manually, however EntityAIWander only sets the path of my entity to a "viable" location so, on superflat only height 4, and I dont really understand why?

EntityAIWander  uses

RandomPositionGenerator.findRandomTarget(this.entity, 10, 7);

to get a random Vec3 and then sets the path of the entity to it, cant find anything changing the y coord..

Have you tried looking up source for the bat?

It does fly around and "land" on blocks upside down, maybe you can find something useful there.
