Well, I have wondered this as well. You could try overriding randomDisplayTick in your block class, then using the world parameter get the block you want to change the texture of using the coords, then use setTextureName. Just a wild guess. :)

I want to change the texture of an item not a block :-)

Ya now that I think of it, we would need to know that. I was thinking maybe PlayerTickEvent could help but it would be easier if you could override a method in the item class instead of creating a new class.

It needs to change when I press the L key but I have the key event already

But I want to have a sword that changes texture. Can swords have metadata
