If you could elaborate on that please that would be great. What exactly are you trying to do?

I think he is trying to use events to prevent the player from selecting a different item in the hotbar. Like adding custom scroll functionality to an item or something.

Although, I, Myself don't know how to do this, looking around in the source code of other mods can be surprisingly helpful. try checking out the source for EnderIO, there are a few items in that which accomplish this. Specifically I am thinking of the yeta wrench.
