Father in need of help

Hi there.

 

Daughter is after mods but i cant seem to load them up even following the usual instructions.  I have installed forge and what not downloaded a couple of mods off the internet but after i have copied them into the mod folder and then load up minecraft on the forge profile they still dont show up on the mod list. Im not after links to tutorials just someone in plain english to give a nice little walk through and possible solutions to problems.

Make sure you put the mods in the "mods" folder, not the "mod" folder.
