Clientside changes only?

I am completely at a loss with my code.

I've developed a mod that lets you store EXP values in a certain item's damage value, but the damage and the EXP aren't getting sent serverside. Yes, I am sending it through packets, but it just isn't working. Everything reverts to the original values when the server updates them (xp, and damage)
